Important Message to Our Veterans

The Carl Vinson VA Medical Center is committed to providing our Veterans with the highest quality healthcare in a safe environment that honors their service. To do this, we are continually reviewing how we use our resources to ensure that they are best utilized to serve our veterans.

After a two-year review of our Emergency Department (ED), we have determined that it is in the best interest of our Veterans to convert our ED to an urgent care center (UCC). ED usage data shows that only 3% of Veterans who come to the ED have actual emergency needs, which usually requires that we transfer them to facilities that are better equipped to provide the higher-level care that they need. Consequently, converting the ED to an urgent care center will better serve our Veterans’ needs.

The Emergency Department will officially transition to an Urgent Care Center in November 15, 2016. The CVVAMC Urgent Care Center (UCC) will operate seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.

We want to clearly convey to our Veterans and other stakeholders that a comprehensive plan is in place to ensure a seamless transition of healthcare for our Veterans during these changes and that these proposed changes are planned solely for the purpose of providing our Veterans with the highest quality care in the safest possible environment.

If you have any questions or concerns about these proposed changes, please contact Dr. Frank Jordan, Chief of Communications and Stakeholder Relations, at 478-274-5440 or Frank.Jordan@va.gov.
